Wave Function Collapse is a concept in quantum mechanics describing the transition from a range of possible measurement outcomes to the single outcome that is actually observed. Before measurement, a quantum system is represented by a wave function that can contain a superposition of several possible states at once. Rather than assigning one definite result in advance, the wave function gives probabilities for the different results that could be obtained. When a measurement occurs, only one of those possibilities is recorded, a process traditionally described as the collapse of the wave function.
