Echo
A signal echo is a delayed repetition of a transmitted signal that occurs when part of the original transmission takes a longer path before reaching a receiver. In radio, radar, and telecommunications, signals can reflect from surfaces, atmospheric layers, buildings, terrain, or other objects and arrive after the direct signal has already been received. Radar works deliberately with this principle by transmitting radio waves and measuring the echoes that return from distant objects. In space communication, radio signals sent toward planets, moons, and asteroids can reflect from their surfaces and return to Earth, allowing scientists to study their distance, motion, and physical properties. Because electromagnetic signals require time to travel, every returned echo is also information from a slightly earlier moment.
