Infinite Expansion draws from the cosmological observation that the universe has been expanding since its earliest known stages and continues to expand today. Rather than galaxies simply moving outward through existing space, the distances between widely separated galaxies increase as space itself expands. Observations of distant supernovae indicate that this cosmic expansion is currently accelerating, a phenomenon generally attributed to an unknown component called dark energy. If this acceleration continues, distant galaxies will become increasingly separated from one another over immense periods of time. Eventually, many galaxies beyond our local gravitationally bound region could recede so far that their light will no longer be able to reach us.
