Energy Cascade
An Energy Cascade is a process in which energy is transferred from one scale or part of a system to another. The term is especially important in the study of turbulence, where energy introduced through large movements of a fluid gradually passes into smaller and smaller motions. These large swirling structures break into smaller eddies, which continue dividing until the energy reaches scales where it is ultimately converted into heat. Energy cascades help explain how enormous systems can transfer energy across vastly different scales without the energy simply disappearing.
