Sublimation Hour
Sublimation Hour is not a formal scientific term, but it combines the physical process of sublimation with the idea of a particular moment or period of transformation. Sublimation occurs when a substance changes directly from a solid into a gas without first becoming a liquid. In space, this process is especially visible in comets, where frozen materials begin to sublimate as a comet approaches the Sun. The released gas carries dust away from the surface and helps create the glowing coma and tails surrounding the comet. Sublimation also occurs on icy worlds such as Mars, Pluto, and other bodies where temperature and pressure allow frozen materials to pass directly into vapor.
