Wolf Moon
The Wolf Moon is a traditional name commonly given to the full moon that occurs in January. The name is often associated with wolves being heard howling during the long winter nights, when their calls may have seemed especially noticeable across cold and quiet landscapes. Wolves actually howl throughout the year to communicate, locate members of their pack, defend territory, and maintain social bonds. The name is frequently described as originating with Native Americans, but Indigenous peoples across North America had many different lunar calendars and names for seasonal moons rather than one shared system.
