Planck’s Law is a fundamental law of physics describing how a hot object emits electromagnetic radiation according to its temperature. Developed by German physicist Max Planck in 1900, it emerged from attempts to explain the spectrum of light produced by an idealized object known as a blackbody. Classical physics could not correctly explain the observed distribution of energy, particularly at very short wavelengths, creating a problem later known as the ultraviolet catastrophe. Planck solved the problem by proposing that energy could be emitted or absorbed only in discrete amounts, which he called quanta. This seemingly small mathematical idea became one of the foundations of quantum physics and radically changed our understanding of matter and light.
