A Binary Star is a system of two stars gravitationally bound to one another, orbiting around a shared center of mass. Although they may appear from Earth as a single point of light, careful observation can reveal two separate stars moving together through space. Binary systems are extremely common and have played an important role in astronomy because their orbital motion allows scientists to calculate the masses of stars. Some binaries orbit far apart, while others exist so close together that material can flow from one star to the other, dramatically changing the evolution of both.

Framing Note: Frames are selected by the artist and are included primarily to protect the artwork during handling and transit. Collectors are welcome to reframe the artwork after receipt according to their personal preference.
