As Above, So Below expresses the Hermetic idea that different levels of reality correspond with one another, connecting the heavens and Earth, the greater universe and the smaller world of human existence. The idea is associated with the Emerald Tablet, a short and influential Hermetic text known through medieval Arabic and later Latin traditions and traditionally attributed to the legendary figure Hermes Trismegistus. One of its most famous passages describes what is below as being like what is above, and what is above as being like what is below.
