The Einstein Ring is an astronomical phenomenon produced by gravitational lensing, one of the consequences of Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Einstein showed that massive objects curve the spacetime surrounding them, causing light traveling through that region to follow a curved path. When a distant galaxy or other light source lies almost perfectly behind another massive object from our perspective, its light can be bent around the foreground object from multiple directions. Instead of seeing the distant source in its ordinary shape, an observer may see its distorted light stretched into a luminous circle known as an Einstein Ring.
