Negative Ions are atoms or molecules that have gained one or more electrons, giving them a net negative electrical charge. The scientific term for a negatively charged ion is an anion. Ions form when electrons are transferred between atoms or molecules through processes involving chemical reactions, radiation, heat, electricity, or interactions with energetic particles. Because ions carry electrical charge, their motion can be influenced by electric and magnetic fields, making them important components of plasmas and many space environments.
