The most famous example is the singularity predicted inside an idealized black hole, where matter is driven toward an extraordinarily compressed state and spacetime curvature becomes unbounded in the classical theory. A singularity is not simply another name for a black hole, but something predicted to lie beyond its event horizon under general relativity. The concept also appears in models of the early universe, where tracing cosmic expansion backward leads toward conditions of extreme density and temperature associated with the Big Bang.
