Uncarved Block

The Uncarved Block is a concept from Taoist philosophy representing a natural state of simplicity, openness, and unrealized potential. Known as pu in Chinese philosophy, the image describes a piece of wood before it has been carved into a particular shape or given a specific purpose. In the Tao Te Ching, it represents something that has not yet been divided, categorized, or altered by human expectations. Once the block is carved, it becomes something specific, but in doing so it loses the unlimited possibilities contained in its original state. The concept encourages allowing things to exist according to their own nature rather than constantly trying to control or reshape them.
