After two years of intensive research and development in material applications and aesthetic possibilities, Whitney Wolf is showing examples of his visual contemplations of quantum physics.

“Strings, Waves and Visual Arbitration” will open on May 23 at the New York Arcade on the corner of New York and Fairbanks avenues daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. A reception for patrons and friends will be held on the evening of May 22.

Whitney’s extensive readings in the field of physics have inspired him to speculate about the nature of the universe and quantum reality on canvas and in sculptural form.

With multi-geometric layering, gridwork and shifting perspective, Whitney’s canvases absorb the viewer as if he or she were truly being swallowed by black holes.

Incorporating the techniques of bronze-casting and assemblage, Whitney produces three-dimensional models with an nth-dimensional capacity.

With the aid of either white light or laser beam interference, Whitney’s works of Lexan and steel emit plasmic effects. The works in bronze combine figures and topologies with gridwork across curved space.

A graduate of programs in philosophy and the visual arts, Whitney extended his sculptural expertise through a fellowship with Duane Hanson. As both a teacher of classical realism and bronze-casting at Maitland Art Center and as an upper-division instructor in studio art at Trinity Preparatory School, Whitney expresses a strong commitment to education and hopes that his artistic speculations into the world of physics will inspire others to wonder, to imagine how to visualize the mysteries of mind and the universe.
